We don't use cookies or third-party tracking. To show distances to servers, your browser can request its location from a sequence of third-party services (freeipapi.com, ipwho.is, geoapi.info, geoip.vuiz.net, geojs.io) until one succeeds. Our server processes anonymized technical logs to monitor performance, but your full IP address is never stored; it is masked immediately to protect your identity.
Privacy-First Analytics: We do not use cookies, pixels, or JavaScript trackers. We use a privacy-respecting, server-side tool to monitor aggregate traffic trends without identifying individual users.
Local Storage: Your settings and location coordinates are stored only in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device.
Geolocation: To display the distance (in km) to Jamulus servers, your browser sends a direct, privacy-preserving request to one of several third-party IP geolocation services (freeipapi.com, ipwho.is, geoapi.info, geoip.vuiz.net, or geojs.io). This happens directly between your browser and the provider; our servers are not involved. The first successful provider is used.
Separation of Data: Our backend servers never receive or store your coordinates. The distance calculation is performed locally on your device.
Technical Server Logs: To ensure security and stability, our Nginx server logs requests using **IP Masking**. The last part of your IP address (the last octet) is automatically truncated before being written to disk. This ensures that technical logs remain anonymized and cannot be traced back to you personally.
Friend-join notifications. You can now be alerted the moment one of your friends starts playing - even when you're not looking at the site. Turn on the Notifications switch in the header and allow the browser permission prompt once. From then on you'll get a notification whenever a friend joins any session: in the background, on your phone, and even when the tab is closed. Only a secure fingerprint of your friends' names is used for matching - the names themselves never leave your device.
Smarter “No Bots” filter. The No Bots switch in the header now also hides listener bots, not just streamer channels. A client that stays connected to the same server for many hours is automatically marked as a bot and filtered out. The time someone has been connected stays private - the site only receives a simple yes/no marker, never the duration.
Installable app. Jamscout can now be installed on your phone, tablet or computer like a regular app - look for the Install app button in the header. No app store, no account, and it always updates itself.
